The admission process is a two step process: University admission and Nursing Program application and selection.
University admission requires completion of the application for undergraduate study and submission of all official transcripts to the Admission’s Office.
-
Accepted to HCU through the undergraduate admission process.
-
Minimum 3.0 GPA (Cumulative GPA, Science GPA, HCU GPA.
- Transcripts reflect no more than two grades of “D” or “F” in the required science courses, or more than one grade of “D” or “F” in a nursing course (if more, not eligible for admission).
-
Attended a mandatory Nursing Information Session (details below).
-
Completed the HESI A2 entrance exam (details below).
- Completed all nursing prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better.
- Completed all HCU Proficiencies: Reading, Written English, Math, & Computer.
-
Met with a nursing faculty advisor to review the hard copy checklist and receive an application.
Meeting minimum entry requirements does not guarantee entry into the nursing program. The admissions process is competitive. Applicants must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, 3.0 science GPA, and 3.0 HCU GPA (if applicable). A score of 80% or higher must be achieved on the HESI A2 Assessment Exam, on no more than 2 attempts in each of the three (3) sections: Grammar, Math, and Reading Comprehension. The Anatomy & Physiology component is also required, although there is no minimum score. A student also must show proof of a clear background check from the Texas Board of Nursing before enrolling in classes in the nursing program. This is required for state licensure.
