General

You will need to TexShare is a consortium of academic and public libraries across the area. There are TexShare members across the entire state of TexShare and your TexShare card is good at any participating member. You, however, must deal directly with that library yourself.

HCU students, faculty, and staff can come to our Reference Desk and fill out a form. This will allow you to check out resources from most libraries state-wide. Have your Texas Driver's license, HCU ID card, and TexShare cards all ready to show to those who ask. You will be allowed to check out a total of four books at any one time from other TexShare libraries. We recommend the following:

  • Check the catalog from the other library to see it the item is available before leaving (see other library listing)!
  • You can also use WorldCat. Search for your items and list 77074 as the zip code. It will sort your results by zip code starting with the nearest location and working out from there. If we (HCU Moody Library) have it, then it will be listed first. If not, then you can see who in the area does have it and go there if available. Just click the university or library link and you'll be taken directly to their catalog where you can check availability.
  • Have cash/card available for parking needs (at universities).

Be aware that you will deal ONLY with that library. You will have to drive back to return items and pay fines to them if you incur overdue fines.

It's a great resource and really helpful if you need something immediately and don't have much time to wait -- but it is always better to plan ahead, if possible.

Going to Rice

  • You come to the library front desk before going to Rice with a list of what books you are interested in checking out.
  • Student/Faculty must be in good standing with Moody Library.
  • Librarians will contact Fondren Library first to ask permission for you to come.
  • The agreement between Rice and HCU allows our faculty, staff, and students to borrow up to four books at a time.
  • The books can be returned either to the HCU Moody Library (for return by courier) or directly to Fondren Library at Rice.
  • Fines must be handled through Fondren Library.
  • Remember that you will need to pay a parking fee when going to Rice. There is no free parking (read their FAQ).

Note: Any books borrowed from Rice University in person could also be requested using our regular interlibrary loan forms as described above to avoid the extra travel.
