HCU email will be an important part of the communication process. It will be the only official email that the university will use to send you anything electronically related to HCU academics or anything else related to HCU. You can forward your HCU email to another account if you choose (see below), but things related to HCU will only be sent to your official school email account.

Once you have registered, Campus Information Technology Services sets up the permission for you to use email but you will still have some set up issues to take care of.

  1. Determine your Username and Reset your network/portal password.

    a) Go to Accessing HCU’s Student Systems and supply the requested information. Then, you will see a screen with your username and default password hints for the academic computer systems.
    b) Under the Network and My.HBU.edu section, click the button that says, "Reset My Network Password." You will be taken to http://letmein.hbu.edu where you will need to register, if you have not done so already. You'll need to create four security questions. We highly recommend that you add a secondary email account in case you need a verification code. If you are locked out or need to reset your password, you'll need that secondary account which is sent via email.
    c) Your new password will need to a long one.  It must use three of the following four complexity rules: upper case letters, lower case, numerals, or symbols. (NOTE: network/portal passwords will need reset every semester.)
    d) The university now uses a Multi-Factor verification process. Periodically, you will be asked to send a verification code to use email and Microsoft apps on computers and phone apps.

  2. You also should log in to LetMeIn (https://letmein.hc.edu). You really should consider setting up a secondary email address to receive codes in case you get locked out or need to reset your password. If you don't have a secondary email address, you will have to call ITS. If you had a secondary email address set up, this will be a much faster process, especially at nights or on weekends. You will need to set up security questions as well. HCU ITS can walk you through this if you ask.

  3. Access: a) via the HCU Portal, which is the easiest, or, b) going directly to http://mail.hbu.edu.

  4. You may be asked to set your time zone to better coordinate your Inbox.

  5. To forward emails to your personal email account or smartphone, you will set up a rule within Outlook. Go to http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/ms.exch.ecp.learnredirectto.aspx for further directions.

  6. You can download the Outlook app to connect or use the phone or tablet's native email app. Just create a new "Exchange" account (instead of Outlook). You should only have to add your HCU email address and password to verify.

If you have any issues, please contact ITS at 281-649-3410 or submit a help ticket request at http://helpdesk.hbu.edu (requires HCU network login and password).
