Anything saved in OneDrive file will open in the real Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). You can also create Word, Excel, and PowerPoint slides with Office365's online version of the software and then save it in OneDrive. You do have the option of downloading to work with the full desktop version and re-save it back itno the cloud. It has a very nice auto-save feature so you won't have to worry about it.

Update: The HCU Outlook Web version has been updated to Office 365 and SkyDrive was renamed OneDrive, which has an available app. You can create your own account. You have 1 terabyte of space available. Go to http://cloud.hbu.edu link and select OneDrive from options.
