Any extracurricular activity can be fun, beneficial to the community and people only later to become a problem where it overshadows your real reason for being here -- an education. The main thing is to ask about time requirements during Rush and recruitment activities. Ask about ramifications of joining but determining later that the commitment is too much. Then, you can make an informed decision and carry a good planner to practice good time management skills.
