Yes. If you search: Spirituals (Songs) and click the dropdown menu for Subject, you will find books, E-books, and some audio/visual options as well. As for journal articles, I recommend HCU OneSearch on the library home page. Click Advanced Search.

1) In the first row, type spirituals in the box and click the dropdown menu to select Subject.
2) In the second row, type music in the box and click the dropdown menu to again select Subject. That should yield a little more than 1000 results.
3) In the limit section along the left side of your window, click "Scholarly." The result set will automatically update and you should have around 300 results. That is a very reasonable result set with which to work.

In both case, be sure to play "word detective." In the whole citation, look for words in the Title, Abstracts, and Subject fields for additional words to use in your searches.
