The TexShare card program is an agreement among several libraries that allows TexShare card holders to directly borrow from TexShare libraries. The idea is for items you need immediately. If you can start your research earlier, interlibrary loans is better because you don't have to waste time, travel, and possible parking fees to go to another library.

HCU students/faculty/staff: Go to the HCU reference desk and ask for a TexShare card application. Using a TexShare card HCU faculty, staff and currently enrolled students can borrow books in person from participating libraries. Users should be prepared to present their TexShare card (not a facsimile), HCU ID card, or a Texas driver's license. The number of books that can be borrowed is limited by the policies of the TexShare libraries. You can view this map to see the libraries that participate in the card program across the state.

General Public: If you are not currently enrolled at HCU as a student, teach at HCU, or are employed here, then you need to go to the reference desk at your library (public or academic) and ask if they are member of the TexShare card program and follow their rules.

NOTE: Rice University does not accept the TexShare card. They prefer that you use interlibrary loans. You can use an interlibrary loan form for items you need at Rice. You can pick them up there and return them here for return via our courier. To visit Rice:

  • Come to the Library's front desk.
  • Librarians must contact Fondren Library for permission before going to Fondren Library. We will need your H-number and a list of books that that you wish to check out from Fondren Library to email to Rice.
  • The agreement between Rice and HCU allows our faculty, staff, and students to borrow up to four books at a time.
  • The books can be returned either to the HCU Moody Library (for return by courier) or directly to Fondren Library at Rice.
  • Fines must be handled through Fondren Library.
  • Remember that you will need to pay a parking fee when going to Rice. There is no free parking (read their FAQ).

Note: Any books borrowed from Rice University in person could also be requested using our regular interlibrary loan forms as described above to avoid extra travel.
